What are intellectual and developmental disabilities?
Developmental disabilities are caused by chronic mental and/or physical impairments beginning early in life or at birth. Many people with developmental disabilities are ready, willing and capable or working for you.
What is a person-centered-plan?
Person-centered planning (PCP) is a set of approaches designed to assist someone to plan their life and supports. It is used most often as a life planning model to enable individuals with disabilities or otherwise requiring support to increase their personal self-determination and improve their own independence.
What is a individual service plan?
What is the Individual Service Plan (ISP)?The Individual Service Plan (ISP) is the written details of the supports, activities, and resources required for the individual to achieve personal goals. The Individual Service Plan is developed to articulate decisions and agreements made during a person-centered process of planning and information gathering. The general welfare and personal preferences of the individual are the key consideration in the development of all plans.
What is meant by” inclusion?”
Inclusion is the process whereby every person (irrespective of age, disability, gender, religion, sexual preference or nationality) who wishes to can access and participate fully in all aspects of an activity or service in the same way as any other member of the community. Inclusion requires time, space, effort and resources but it creates a society which is:
- Fairer
- More cohesive
- Richer
What is meant by “integration?”
Integration means the physical presence of a person with disability.
What is meant by “community?”
The word community. . . can refer to a specific group of people (a geographical community, a church congregation) or it can describe a quality of relationship based on certain values and principles.
How do I get started?
Give the INALLIANCE office in Sacramento a call and ask to speak with the Intake Coordinator, who will answer any questions that you may have, and will explain the intake process to you. An information meeting can be scheduled at your convenience and location of your choosing.
How is transportation handled?
For some participants transportation is provided; others drive their own vehicles, take public transportation and/or make other arrangements.
Who will work with me?
A direct support professional whose primary purpose is to assist people who need support to lead self-directed lives and to participate fully in our communities.
What happens if someone gets hurt at work?
If a direct hire is injured on the job, your company worker’s compensation insurance will be responsible because he/she is your employee. If an Employment Training Specialist (ETS) or work crew member is injured on the job INALLIANCE covers both. However, fraudulent worker’s compensation claims are practically unheard of.
Will I need to make accommodations? How much will it cost?
According to Job Accommodation Network, 56 of accommodations cost nothing, and the rest only about $500. However, most workers with disabilities require no special accommodations. Interestingly, innovation often arises from accommodation.
What if my workers are uncomfortable and their productivity is negatively impacted?
Workers with disabilities tend to have a positive effect on their co-workers. Many case studies show positive effects on retention, morale, and productivity.
How will this effect my bottom line?
Hiring a person with a developmental disability can have very positive effects on your business. Studies show that businesses that hire people with disabilities tend to be looked upon more favorably by consumers. Plus, you are tapping a $220B market niche.
